NEW DELHI: Amazon.com Inc’s Indian unit on Thursday said it can start providing auto insurance, making India the e-commerce large’s first marketplace for the service.
Amazon Pay, the India unit’s funds arm, has partnered with private firm Acko General Insurance to offer automobile and motor-bike insurance, the company said in its weblog.
The insurance is presently accessible on Amazon’s app and mobile web site.
Customers of Amazon’s Prime loyalty programme — which guarantees free films and music streaming in addition to quicker deliveries for an annual 999 rupees ($13.36) — will get further advantages and extra reductions, Amazon said.
Amazon’s service will compete with native rivals together with digital funds firm Paytm and insurance aggregator Policybazar, which is backed by ComfortableBank.
India is one the quickest rising markets for Amazon, though it has had to face a number of regulatory hurdles.
